BSU Historian Lynn Lubamersky Participates in Advanced Holocaust Studies
Professor Lynn Lubamersky was one of eighteen participants in the 2008 Silberman Seminar for University Faculty, organized by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies. The faculty members who participated in this summer’s seminar entitled, “Teaching the Legacy of the Holocaust: Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine,” were competitively selected from a national pool of applicants.
Held at the Museum in Washington D.C. from June 2 - 13, 2008, the seminar was designed for university faculty teaching or preparing to teach Holocaust-related courses that examine the impact and legacy of the Holocaust.
This year’s seminar focused on the Holocaust in Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine; the struggle of their populations to come to terms with their Holocaust history; the current public debates on their involvement in perpetrating the Holocaust;and other complex issues of memory, memorialization, and rememberance. Seminar participants also engaged in discussions on classroom teaching methods, and analyzed teaching strategies across multiple disciplines.
The Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies was established in 1998 to promote the growth of the field of Holocaust studies and ensure the training of future generations of scholars specializing int he Holocaust.
