Associated PressBOISE — Boise State University is now home to Idaho’s largest collection of historical materials regarding the Basque community.
The state has the largest Basque population in the nation, a community that first settled here after many left their homeland on the Spanish-French border during the 1880s.
The University of Idaho started collecting Basque-related materials in the 1960s and has now given its materials to Boise State University.
The collection was valued at $100,000 in 1995 and includes more than 3,000 books, some 100 years old and published in Spain and France.
Marilyn Moody, library dean at Boise State University, says the materials will be electronically stored, for the first time, in a nationwide database.
