College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs Faculty in Action

Mary Stohr, Department of Criminal Justice, is the recipient of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Founders Award for 2009. This award is given to those who have made a distinguished contribution to justice education and scholarship, as determined by their scholarly achievement and service to the academy.

Susan Mason, assistant professor of political science and public policy and administration, co-authored a book chapter titled “Local Government Personnel Administration: Heritage, Contemporary Practice and Portents” with Lana Stein, emeritus faculty at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The chapter appears in Public Human Resource Management: Problems and Prospects, published by Longman Press.

John Ziker, associate professor of anthropology, presented “Violent Death in Northern Siberia: Application of Evolutionary Hypotheses” to the Barbara L. and Norman C. Tanner Center for Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy Third Annual International Conference, The Evolution of Human Aggression: Lessons for Today’s Conflicts. The conference was held in Salt Lake City Feb. 25-27.

Gary Moncrief, professor of political science, was quoted in a story in the Cleveland Plain-Dealer over the weekend. The story was about how term limits increase the influence of experienced lobbyists on state budgets and public policy. Moncrief, who studies term limits, said legislative turnover has given most lobbyists an advantage.
