SSPA Hosts Inauguration Event
The College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs hosted a viewing of the Inauguration ceremony yesterday in the Jordan Ballroom. Students, faculty, staff, and the community at large gathered to witness the historic event, with many faculty members bringing their classes. Coverage of the event included:
Across the street at the university, about 300 students and faculty packed a ballroom to watch two large screens. Political science professor John Freemuth recalled a similar historic day.
“I saw John Kennedy’s inauguration in sixth grade with my class,” Freemuth, 58, said of the 1961 event.
Across the ballroom, a 19-year-old who voted for Obama in her first presidential election contemplated the future.
“I’m just so curious if he’s going to do everything he said,” said Rhiannon James, a criminal justice major.
Even though the crowd at Boise State’s Jordan Ballroom watched the inauguration on a big screen TV a continent away, they stood in honor when Barack Obama took the oath.
. . . Some BSU professors brought their classes to watch.
“As a history professor, I want them to witness it,” said Prof. Joanne Klein. “They can say where they were and be able to tell their children.”
It was an exciting day for many Idahoans especially the young crowds as they too witnessed history in the making.
It was the first day of classes for the BSU students and many of them told me it’s also the beginning of new change.
